Jara Bass is a love letter to Sebastiaan Jara James-Kraan
A name that still feels too heavy with absence, but whose light continues to guide us.
Born on 19th June 2003, Sebastiaan arrived into the world with a full head of hair, weighing 11.5 pounds, and already defying expectations. A “big, strong, tall young man,” as those who knew him would say, he was a gentle giant whose heart overflowed with kindness, curiosity, and an unshakable connection to the world around him.
From his earliest days, Sebastiaan had a gift. Animals gravitated toward him—stray dogs, wounded birds, even the shyest of garden creatures. He saw potential where others saw brokenness, and he nurtured it. Rescuing and training dogs that others had given up on became his passion, a testament to his belief that everyone, no matter how “damaged,” deserved a second chance. His older brother, Felix, often jokes that Sebastiaan could speak their language, but the truth is, Sebastiaan simply listened in a way that made every living soul feel seen.
Tragedy struck in London, where Sebastiaan was visiting friends. A single, senseless act of violence—shot in the chest—left him fighting for his life. The ambulance, taking 49 minutes on a two-mile journey, in the early London streets could not save him. Sebastiaan passed away from oxygen starvation, a preventable loss that still feels like a wound too fresh to name, a week before his 21st birthday.
But Jara Bass is not a brand of grief. It is a brand of remembrance, of resilience, and of action. Named in honour of the “big, strong” spirit Sebastiaan embodied, every piece of clothing we create carries his story—his courage, his compassion, and the quiet, unyielding strength of a young man who believed in second chances.
This is not just a tribute to a son and brother. It is a call to honour the way he lived: with open arms, open heart, and a refusal to look away from those in need. Sebastiaan is gone, but his legacy is not. It lives in every stitch, every thread, and every soul who wears Jara Bass.
